Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between volunteers and interns?
Interns with the LWV of Greater Los Angeles generally take more complete roles with the goal of professional development and career experience. Our internship program is designed for aspiring professionals to gain the opportunity to work with industry leaders and learn the skills necessary to succeed in the political and nonprofit spaces. Our volunteers typically take roles and projects that fit with their schedules. Volunteers participate in committees that interest them rather than in a formal internship program.
What is the time commitment for volunteering? What if I can't fulfill all the hours I commit to?
The League has a guilt-free policy for its members. You can join and participate as much or as little as you like. Many active members were inactive for years, then increased their participation as their lives changed.
Do I need any prior experience to intern or volunteer?
No prior industry-specific experience is necessary to join our team. In our interns, we look for enthusiasm to impact your community and to pursue the world of politics and nonprofits at a higher level. All volunteers regardless of experience, background, or skillset are welcome on our team.
